The mission of the American Association of University Women is to promote education and equity for all women and girls, lifelong education, and positive societal change. Since it's founding in 1881, members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day - educational, social, economic, and political. Our commitment to our mission is reflected in all aspects of our work. The following links are on the AAUW Association web site (www.aauw.org) and open in a new browser window: The Association's voice has long influenced legislative debate on critical social issues such as education, sex discrimination, civil rights, reproductive choice, affirmative action, Title IX, welfare reform, vocational education, pay equity, family and medical leave, and health care reform. For more information on the national association, please use one of the above links or contact the address below: American Association of University Women In principle and practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or class. At the state and national levels AAUW membership is open to women (and men) who hold a degree from an accredited college or university, including a two-year Associate’s degree. In Kona we also offer a “community partner” membership option. Community partners are individuals who share our mission but do not have the degree. It is our belief that an individual’s purpose is more important than an individual’s educational history. Presently local/state/national dues are $74 a year with $49 going to national, $10 to state, and $15 staying at our local level. Community partners only pay the local dues. If individuals join between January and March the dues are cut in half, and if they join between April and June their dues are for the next membership year. AAUW-Kona is part of the Hawaii-Pacific Region. This site opens in a new browser window.
